The Coppa Italia Rental Karting, known as IRK, is a project that came into being thanks to the Roma Caput Karting team, which has been participating in endurance races since 2015. The goal was to create a championship where as many teams as possible from the territory participate. With the valuable contribution of Federico Contessi, we managed to create an ambitious project: to create a new championship that can serve as an example for all future events. The championship will be fully registered on the Sodi World Series and will be supported by the ASI.
The IRK Championship was born with the goal of creating a unique project of national interest to further develop rental karting in a more professional way. Our big challenge is to create a homogeneous regulation for all the rounds of the championship.
The main novelty is the creation of team categories (EK3; EK2 or EK1) based on the category of each driver (BRONZE; SILVER or GOLD).
The EK1 category, the premier class of the championship, has no restrictions on the category of drivers. This is where the strongest and best prepared teams will compete. In the EK2 category, the number of GOLD class drivers must not exceed 50% of the total number of participating drivers in the team. This category is intended for “gentleman” teams. The EK3 class may consist of SILVER and BRONZE drivers and a maximum of 25% GOLD drivers, and is intended for novice teams and drivers. This category was created to bring a maximum of participants into the world of endurance karting. A key point has been the creation of the Safety Commission, which is a system composed of Team Managers from the major teams who believe in the project and who participate in the whole championship.
